Divine production and purposeful, meaningful songwriting – the rise of Rafael Montecruz has been exponential in recent months, and culminates this summer with an inspiring and catchy new anthem Someday (Reimagined).

Noting over 30 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify alone, with track streams in the hundreds of thousands, Rafael Montecruz is a producer and songwriter with a clear talent for uniting creative soundtracks with catchy hooks and honest, evocative themes. These abilities shine with equal brightness, throughout this latest collaboration with soulful and impassioned singer Abraham Armell.

Built around an emotive pop melody, with a funky guitar rhythm and ambient, immersive synths, Someday (Reimagined) is hauntingly beautiful in its portrayal of the contrast between optimism and longing. The song aims to create a space representing the different realms of dreaming and reality, and this level of thought and intention is key to much of Rafael Montecruz’ unique music.

The song reflects upon the idea of falling in love with something unreal – a figment of your own imagination. It’s a complex and provocative topic, the emotional depths of the mind proving limitless and poignant in this setting. What appears as a simple love song, actually runs far more deeply, and prompts consideration of the true wonder of the self, and the power of the mind in conjuring up a whole other seemingly sentient being to fall in love with.

Fascinating songwriting somewhat cleverly disguised as modern pop, funk and RnB – Someday (Reimagined) is intriguing yet satisfying, and brilliantly refreshing in its unprecedented exploration of the human mind.

Musician and composer Rafael Montecruz began the track with a simple piano melody, and proceeded to embark upon the journey of a fictional protagonist from the perspective of a dream. The original version of the song was more organic, just piano, cellos and vocals, but here we see the full visualisation of the dream sequence, with cascading synths, keys, light rhythms, whispers and fragments, all united amidst an atmospheric wave of audio escapism.

“I don’t know why I dream of you. I guess I want to be with you, someday.”

Quite possibly his catchiest and most euphoric, thought provoking single to date, Someday (Reimagined) is humble yet intoxicating, capturing the essence of the dream world beautifully, and carefully intertwining this with the humanity and realism of the present moment.
