Scottish singer and songwriter Kathy Muir rounds off an incredible first third of the year, with yet another fine testament to the immersive and engaging style with which she creates.
Inspired by the poem Wishing Stars, from Lang Leav, EASY is a simple to striking original track, with its roots in the acoustic songwriter realm, but its branches extending outwards into nineties soft rock and indie.
The humility of Kathy’s style is always refreshing, that authenticity is rare these days – music because it’s beautiful and therapeutic to make, not simply because it can win attention. The bi-product of that realness is of course that the song does capture and hold attention well, and this is increasingly true as EASY gathers subtle but mighty momentum. Just after the halfway point, in fact, the return of that hook and groove from earlier – it’s a moment of real uplift and resolve, and it naturally gets you feeling the fluidity and energy of the performance as familiarity ensues.
Built around an acoustic guitar and vocal arrangement, later brightening the set-up through drums from Tyger MacNeal, and bass and guitar from producer Steve Hansen, as well as some additional cello, EASY rises up with confidence and charm – the final fifth offering an intoxicating crescendo of harmonies and multi-layered warmth, to reinforce the natural flair and power of yet another superb melody from Kathy Muir.
