Isn’t This Just So Us is the introduction to the project, intriguing lines contrasted by a powerful hook that’s evocative in both performance and production.
It’s an incredibly strong start, the raw emotion and storytelling of Sid Dorey’s classic sound ringing loud and with a certain authentic originality in the topic and indeed the fusion of genres. The chorus is huge, and unites aspects of organic musicianship and electro-pop in a modest but likable fashion.
This quality continues throughout the EP, with the title track Middle Seat employing these traits all over again, for a fresh sense of juxtaposed evolution and power, as the concept and vocal prowess of Dorey reach an unignorable peak.
Fantastic songwriting, perfectly captured and arranged. Middle Seat is accessible and fascinating in its humanity and stylistic purity and power. An easy must for the summer months of thoughtful reflection and escapism from the noise of the world.
