Catchy songwriting and strong grooves are quickly becoming the lifeblood of creativity that is The Purple Helmets. The Canadian fourpiece offer a distinct vocal sound and something of a humble musicality, and yet they elevate these qualities quite faultlessly, with great songwriting, conceptual depth, and raspy harmonies that seem born to be performed.
In The Queue is one of the band’s latest releases, and perhaps their most memorable to date. The single promises a huge earworm of a chorus, a satisfying resolve, and a strangely enthralling subject matter – one perhaps all the more outstanding for those of us who grew up in the global capital of enjoying a good queue.
In The Queue features a distorted guitar solo that’s again modest but soulful and brilliantly intense as it gathers momentum, and all in all, this track effectively gets you cranking up the volume, and strongly considering a live show from The Purple Helmets. This song and indeed all of the band’s releases so far will no doubt make for a superb festival set or gig. Definitely one worth knowing about as the summer season swings into view.
