Hugely cinematic production sets a quickly intriguing vibe – Pastor Weed branches back to his Hip Hop roots, with the sharp bars and haunting, unforgettable hook of the mighty FORGOTTEN.
Built around this kind of retro soundscape and introductory vocal segment that makes sure you know whose track this is, FORGOTTON is likeable initially for the mystique and trip-hop-esque, atmospheric ambiance of the beat. Soon enough though, Pastor Weed injects his own storytelling prowess and vocal confidence on the mic, and proceeds to lay down a set of scenes both consciously clever and smartly captivating.
It’s a high-octane outpouring, classic hip hop reignited for those reinforced vocal echoes at the end of each line, with a fresh story and sentiment, a new leading character, guiding things at the forefront.
It takes more than a single listen to appreciate every reflection and statement, and luckily the originality and this clever blending of the alternative and mainstream tones, makes it incredibly easy and appealing to dive back in from the start. I’m reminded slightly of the Spooks, from way back when – that edgy, melodic and theatrical vibe, well-grounded by thoughtful bars and a faultless rap flow.
A huge introduction to a brand new side of Pastor Weed – FORGOTTEN marks a huge new chapter in the experienced and impassioned story of the artist and rapper; far from a debut in this genre, but the first Hip Hop release under this distinct name. Absolutely one to watch out for this season.
