Athens rock band DANNY&ELLI storm onto the scene with a fierce debut. Noting thick distortion and striking hard-rock riffs, Cheap Motels counters the classic weight of its set-up with a smooth female vocal lead, and flips the script once again for a string of lyrics both carefree and X-rated, as the track confidently rolls along.
Brought together by their shared passion for music and impromptu live performance, DANNY&ELLI connected over their ability to fill in each other’s creative gaps as an act. Danny brings the guitar play and a multi-instrumental background, Elli brings the vocals, lyrics and melodies, and together, their experience and commitment to the cause has delivered a catchy and striking alt-rock anthem for modern times.
Given the duo’s varied tastes in music, the sound they’ve settled upon is essentially a quirky fusion of heavy metal and catchy pop-rock. It’s a style built around songwriting, with snappy lines, memorable phrases and images, but all of that is effectively elevated by sharp riffs, soaring drumlines, and a generally timeless sense of musical escapism – the sort of old-school blues-rock sound that’s refreshing in its organic realism.
