Featuring a cleanly-mixed Sinatra-style vocal lead, and an equally organic feeling big-band arrangement that’s quick to transport you to the fifties, Crypto-Claws are coming to town would easily pass for a timeless Christmas single at a distance – a rather jolly take on the Michael Bublé approach that naturally lifts the mood.
It’s only when we resolve to this lyrical peak, the story and these warnings of ‘the bots-made clout’, that we realise the fairly terrifying conceptual and topical depth of the writing. It’s an age-old melody and performance style, elevated by a stark warning about the future of crypto and our online existence at large.
Admittedly perhaps the most impressive AI creation to emerge this season, the clarity and cleverness of Crypto-Claws are coming to town, and indeed the complete album that is Artificial Xmas, lets the music stand tall in its own lane entirely. These songs are on point with the musical vibe of the season, but are also brilliantly clever, funny, entertaining, and memorable, in a way that’s likely to leave you keen to share the love.
