Featuring an alluring balance between intimate, near-acoustic pop stylings, and something much more full and immersive during the drops, What is Love is built around a clear strength of songwriting, and features softly expressive but passionate female vocals – guiding us through a contemplative and poetic journey exploring precisely the emotional depths suggested by its title.
Melodically we’re in a kind of classic pop territory, but few comparisons come to mind. In a way, the tune and the rise and fall of subtle intensity notes threads to the likes of Justin Bieber’s modern sound, but in most other ways, Mr B da Collaborator has simply crafted an accessible, colourful and thoughtful new song. The production is second to none, the resulting track both engaging and poignant, even uplifting strangely, despite its uncertainty, and the wondering is relatable – the music and vocals accompany that beautifully.
Also worth checking out is the brilliant groove and boldly catchy, bright hook of Free From You. The style again fits well but proves mildly diverse, highlighting a producer with a growing repertoire of heartfelt and stylish songs that are well-worth exploring.
