3mind Blight - Be The One - Stereo Stickman

3mind Blight Be The One

-

After a string of heavy metal releases, 3mind Blight returns to his acoustic alternative roots, with the piano-led and evocative Be The One.

Ballad-like from the outset, acoustic guitar and piano walk us through a four-chord progression of intimate vocals, with lyrics that fearlessly declare their love and the complexity of trying to hide those feelings in the past.

Featuring a melodic contrast from Cash-like verse depth to a higher and more impassioned chorus, Be The One reveals the intricacies of its underlying story throughout the song, and resolves these details with the admission of having lied during a soul-rock hook that perfectly supports the sudden shift in energy. Here we get a soaring electric guitar solo, chaotic piano keys, and multiple layers of bass, voice, synth and string, to effectively reinforce the longing and outcry of the song’s central message.

Somewhat timeless and also surprisingly mainstream-inspired for the iconic indie legend, 3mind Blight gets vulnerable and romantic for Be The One, but it’s not without the usual grit and conflict we’ve come to expect from the eclectic Oklahoma artist. It’s a step in a softer direction, remisncent of the intermittently released tracks we’ve come to love, and it works well to remind us of the heartfelt intentions and musical skill and diversity of 3mind Blight.
