Great vibes and a consistent celebration of immersive production and catchy songwriting – the long-awaited EP from Anonymous17 hits the airwaves, with six original tracks that boldly celebrate the optimism and anthemic brightness of the style.
Produced by Chip Altholz and Anonymous17, with compositions from Nick Bak, Anonymous17, and Chip Altholz, the collaborative electro-pop sound of Anonymous17 11 reaches peak positivity and brightness in its early moments.
Move is the opener, a funky floor-filler with cascading vocals and expressive melodic shifts that make it both chaotic and excitable as an introduction to the EP.
After this, Goodnight follows suit but with a quirky vocal adlib and a fresh leading character. Here we get a nostalgic balancing of retro synths, horns, and classic pop melodies, for a track distinctly different to the first, but in keeping with the fullness and possibility of the overall playlist.
Arrangement matters, and the intimate, acoustic softness of In Your Way makes for a gorgeous third track, and perhaps the EP’s most impactful and memorable song. An intimate and evocative set-up, a personal subject matter both honest and relatable – In Your Way is quiet to uplifting, thoughtful and fun, and is gorgeously awakening in its completed celebration.
Versatility is a strength as ever for the elusive Anonymous17, and as such, the radio edit for Stay utilises a rapped vocal for dynamic, alongside funky bass and the now recognisable vocal meandering of our lead.
Then we get the atmospheric radio echoing of You Had To Be Perfect – an acoustic to bass-led and sultry exploration of relationship turmoil and infatuation. As the longest song on the project, this one showcases perhaps the most heartfelt vocals and subject matter, and offers an impressive acoustic guitar performance.
For one last injection of contrast, Be Love Give Love wraps up the EP as an electro-pop and dance hit with a twist of distorted rock guitar, returning to those cascading vocal layers and the fully-loaded funk sound of the opening track. Once again, the approach is original in melody, but in keeping with the project’s distinct style.
Collaboration brings out the creative freedom in all of us, and Anonymous17 11 highlights that truth.
