Burning Sage Weapons of my Hometown

-

Switzerland folk and rock outfit Burning Sage continue to bring emotional intensity back to the scene, not least of all with their latest atmospheric, lyrical and melodic gem that is Weapons of My Hometown.

Taking its time to build thanks to an artistically rooted seven-minute-plus arrangement, Weapons of My Hometown features the iconic vocal rasp of Burning Sage amidst a string of lyrics and simple melodies that quickly captivate.

The song instantly feels both historical and boldly topical, captivating for the mighty contrast between this hopeful acoustic musicianship and the sheer uncertainty and desperation of the lyrics. There’s also a certain rawness to the delivery of this song, a blending of the familiar folk and blues-rock anthems of the past couple of decades, and something more free and expressive; in an independent, poetic kind of way.

That balance works beautifully in helping the Burning Sage band achieve a style of their own, and the song rises and rises consistently – an evolving soundscape that’s impassioned and powerful as it storms through the airwaves.

An easy rock and folk song to let play, with a soaring guitar solo during the latter half, but also a lyrical venture with plenty to unpack as you revisit. I look forward to following this band’s journey.
