Soul-pop sentiments and blissfully unique vocals drive the long-form melodic rise and fall and conceptual optimism of Bare Jams’ new single Rockets.
Backed by the organic embrace of a live band and some subtle off-beat reggae-style rhythms, Rockets proceeds to weave a funk-pop web of multi-layered musicianship and catchy vocal threads.
The sound feels akin to the likes of Cat Empire in some ways, with a dash of Jamiroquai, but ultimately those hints of comparison fall behind, as Bare Jams consistently reinforce their own poetically interesting and soulfully mighty style.
Musically faultless and equally impressive on the vocal front, Rockets captures affection for its colourful and passionate arrangement, and later connects for the thoughtful, relatable undertones of its writing.
The intention is to inspire positivity and optimism. The music alone delivers that kind of lasting good vibe, but the lyrical depth alongside this undoubtedly furthers it. Then we get the rising energy of that looping, uplifting closing quarter, and the very structure of the track proves the absolute icing on the cake.

Hi guys. Can you talk to us more about your latest single Rockets?
We wrote this tune during lockdown and it’s an optimistic take on life trials and tribulations.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
5 bottles of 19 crimes at the end of lockdown.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Yep. We’ve worked with our main man Michael on a video. He’s putting the last touches to it as we speak. It involves us going to space in a stop motion mighty boosh-esque adventure and it’ll be out on 25th November.
How was the recording and writing process?
The tune took on a few different forms during the writing process but eventually managed to pin it down to the song we ended up with. It’s the third single we’ve recorded and produced totally in house and we went back to our favourite studio in Wales to lay it down.
Was it easy to balance the rather dark lyrics with the upbeat music?
Yeah, we’re pretty good at this.
What role does Bristol play in your music?
Most of us have spent time living there over the years and we all really love the vibrant scene. It’s one of our favourites.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes, while we recorded Rockets we recorded two others that will be drip fed over the coming months and into 2023 and there’s plenty more on the burner. Planning to be back in Wales in spring.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Nothing we can tell you right now.
What else is happening next in Bare Jams’ world?
Christmas is coming and the tour we’re on is stocking up the rum store rather nicely. We’ll be back in full force in the new year.
