Hey, thanks for the chat – huge congrats on the new release! What’s the story behind Escape Room?
Escape Room is inspired by true events I have been through, such as false friendships, where it felt like there was no way to escape from the obstacles surrounding me. I hope listeners will relate to this song as well and realize that they are not the only ones who have been through events like this during their lives.
“Blank stare like a puppet in my dollhouse” is a brilliant opening line – what inspired this, and was this the first lyric written or is there a different process or order for your songwriting?
I have always wanted to incorporate the word, dollhouse, into one of my songs. I believed Escape Room was the perfect song to incorporate this word and implement it into a meaningful phrase.
“Blank stare like a puppet in my dollhouse” is about how there are people acting fake in our surroundings and cannot escape from acting like a puppet. I have always wanted this phrase to be the first lyric for this song.
“Blank stare like a puppet in my dollhouse” was the finalized version of the original lyric that I once had. In the beginning of my songwriting process, I always love jotting down ideas and creating even more meaningful phrases after.
Really interesting, ambient and slightly retro production, was this important for you in relation to the concept?
Yes, it definitely was. I wanted Escape Room to have a darker persona to add to the song lyrics and meaning of the song.
How would you generally explain the sound or style of W!G?
That is a really great question! W!G is a growing artist still finding her overall sound, but W!G would be considered as having flavors of traditional pop with a modern teen glow within her music.
Is there a longer project on the way, and / or a live tour?
Most definitely there is! I am so excited to announce my new novel, The Strange Stillness of Time, is now in the process of becoming published.
What’s your favourite thing about making original music?
My favorite thing about making original music is with the people who are involved with the process with me. I am so grateful to have such a talented crew, Dylan Bernard, Will Jay and Sam Creighton, who believe in my art. Since the first day we have all worked together, we have become the greatest friends.
What’s something about you that fans might be surprised to hear?
Even though I am around the spotlight, I tend to keep my feet grounded by staying humble and emanating my true self.
What’s next for you?
I hope to release new music in the future! In the meantime, I hope my new novel, The Strange Stillness of Time, will be released to the world soon.
