Creative production and contemporary trap rhythms meet with an equally modern auto-tune lead and a refreshingly emotive storyline and melody – Dat Dude and 5tr3 get conceptual and ambient with Drip.
Partly on point in terms of the current sound of the hip hop landscape – think Lil Baby, the anthem of last year – but partly also in tune with its own sense of purpose and depth. Drip feels like a laid-back anthem and groove, with a twist of intention woven into the verses.
Lyrically interesting but not always easy to follow due to the production effects, Drip keeps you intrigued throughout and manages to maintain a strong rhythm and vibe with the melodies and quiet confidence of the performances.
Vocally strong and perhaps craving a little more clarity, a live delivery would undoubtedly fill every gap and finish things off well. Great production overall though, an enjoyable sound with a catchy progression and a pair of voices well-suited to the style. Hopefully there’s more music to come.
