Experimental sound-design and a clearly emotive approach to musicianship unite beautifully throughout this ambient, immersive and deeply provocative journey that is Slightly Unhappy Constantly.
Making fine use of unique industrial layers and fragments of voice and instrument thrgohout, the EP starts up with a partly tribal chorus of voices supporting a surprinsgly retro, synth-soaked ambiance that proceeds to rise in intensity and energy throughout.
Throw in a completely unpredictable bass-layer, some distant lyrical concepts, and a clever use of space and quiet for contrast, and soon enough we’re wholly exposed to the artistic freedom and expression of ZKARI in a bold and memorable way.
Featuring an interesting production style on the whole, the EP proves as intriguing as it is musically engaging. It’s fascinating in its sense of freedom and poignancy with relation to the underlying subject matter. There’s so much beauty in these progressions and sound choices, yet also plenty of darkness and uncertainty as per the sentiments at its core.
Cleverly crafted, and far from a one-trick-pony. The EP also welcomes an eighties-esque groove and further instances of depth of thought lit up in a whole new way.
