This week we caught an interview with Hawaii-based musician, author, actor and filmmaker Lyron Foster, to find out more about his creative process and his journey so far as an all-round entrepreneur. Here’s how it went.

Hey – thanks for the interview, how are things where you are right now?
Things are fine here, Thanks.
For those new to your work – what kind of music do you make, and how long have you been releasing original projects?
I make electronic music. Although I’ve always been interested and involved in music I’ve only recently (within the last year) began releasing projects publicly.
Your style features a fairly interesting fusion of nostalgia and freshness – some elements take from classic, even vintage production techniques, others seem notably new and unusual. What would you say inspires you to create in this way, and how do you decide which sounds to utilize or which direction to take a track in?
I don’t follow a methodology or strategy. I just begin with a concept and build up from there.
In addition to being a musician and producer, you’re also an actor, filmmaker, coder and entrepreneur. Which of these practices inspires the greatest passion in you, and how do you manage your time effectively with so many things going on?
They are all very similar roles in many ways. It’s difficult to say which I’m most passionate about as they all allow me to explore different areas of my personality and creativity. If I had to choose one, I would probably say: Filmmaking. Time management is and has always been a challenge for me. It’s likely one that I will be struggling with and always searching for new ways to improve… probably till the end of my days.
Is collaboration an important part of what you do?
Somewhat.
What motivates you to work hard and build and progress, both artistically and personally?
Just a desire to the best possible version of myself.
What’s your biggest goal or ambition right now, and what steps are you taking to achieve it?
The film that I’m making right now: In The Re-Beginning. It will be my first feature length film and we’re utilising some new technology. It’s all rather exciting, although a little intimidating at times.
If you could sit down for a chat with anyone at all, past or present, who would you choose – and what would you ask them about?
I’d prefer not to learn more about the artists and individuals whose work I’ve come to appreciate. I have my own perception of my idols… and I’m comfortable with that. In fact, I tend to avoid following celebrities on platforms such as Twitter, because there’s nothing like having your image of someone ruined by discovering that they’re basically human and full of flaws.
How have the events of 2020 impacted your career, and what are your plans for 2021 when things might, hopefully, return to some level of normality?
Yeah, I’m usually on the go and frequently traveling. Being grounded due to COVID-19 has given me a lot of time to re-examine my work processes and search for better method of efficiency and agility. Hopefully things return back to normal in 2021 and I’m able to exit this introspective mode and begin working progressively again.
What’s something about you that most people don’t know?
I’m a huge fan of musicals.
