An alternative summer hit in the making but inspired by all things from the dead of winter, ICE Cold is a collaborative release, from which all of the proceeds will be donated to families who’ve sadly lost someone to COVID 19.
Featuring pristine production, ICE Cold kicks into gear with a haunting array of synth riffs and heavy 808s – creating a classic mood from the offset, but proceeding to throw in a contemporary vocal and story-line to keep things fresh.
The vocals throughout consistently evolve and vary, meaning you can hang on the structure and performance, the lyrics, more easily than elsewhere. The flow switches gear, melody moves into rap and vice versa. The song is all at once a late night hip hop anthem and an infectiously melodic mainstream contender.
While there’s an ambient delicacy to the entire finish of the single, the undertones are a little heavier, and it feels like there’s definitely room for remix. As it stands though, this gentle setting allows for the vocals and the concept to really stand tall. Outside of short lines and familiar rhymes, we get deeper reflections on life and the self, and the more you hear, the more you want to listen intently.
Great production, great melodies and a non-intrusive yet memorable hook that’s easily recognizable after a single listen.
