Following the release of his impressive single Too Good, we caught an interview with artist moosecanfly to find out more about his journey as an artist. Here’s how it went.

Hey – thanks so much for the interview! I’m a big fan of the single. How did you come to write this, and did you produce it yourself?
I actually wrote this song with a close friend of mine, Kyle (also known as ‘sunsetto’) over FaceTime. I had just dropped off a girl who I had been falling deeply in love with, however, she just wanted to be friends. I didn’t really know how to deal with the situation, so I felt that writing a song would be a positive way to approach it. Kyle also produced this track over the FaceTime call and I would record my vocals, send them over for him to mix.
How does it feel to share such a personal and honest song with the world?
Honestly, it feels sort of weird, but at the same time I’m okay with it because I know that it’s relatable. I’m not the only person who has dealt with this scenario. I’ve always been pretty open about who I am, but never really on this level.
How long have you been making music, and who have been your main inspirations or artists you’ve listened to when growing up?
I have been making music since I was in the 5th grade. It wasn’t good, but it was music lol. I used to make hip-hop music with Kyle and also with my rapper friend Mitchell Bailey. The music I’m making now was the kind of music I always wanted to make but never thought I could. I have been exposed to so many genres that influence me. From My Chemical Romance to Blink-182, Tyler, The Creator, Mac Miller, Pixies, my music taste is all over the place.
Is there a longer project on the way, and if so – what can we look forward to from that?
I have an EP in the works with Kyle. We have been working on our music for over a year now and ‘too good’ is the first song we made together. A few other songs are almost finished and in my opinion what everyone has heard so far isn’t even the best we’ve made.
Are you vocally trained or does singing just come naturally to you?
I have been singing in the shower or while I’ve been driving for years, but never sang for anyone else because I was too insecure for that. I do have a good sense of pitch so I was able to tell when I was hitting the right notes while singing along to my favorite songs. So, I thought “why not try recording myself” considering I own a microphone and know the basics of recording music; I thought I sounded pretty good. Then of course, Kyle encouraged me to keep doing it.
There’s a hint of an emo rap vibe to the track – are you also a rapper?
As I said early, yes, I have rapped in the past, but just for fun lol.
Is live performance an important part of your plans?
We actually made these songs to perform them live. Because what I’m making is so personal and emotion-driven, being able to show people the emotion in person rather than just through their speakers and headphones would be amazing.
If you could collaborate with anyone at all, who would you choose, and why?
There’s definitely a lot, but right now I’d have to say Post Malone. I’ve had multiple people compare my music to his and it just makes the most sense in my mind. We seem to have similar feelings and emotions in our music. Plus, from what I’ve heard he’s a very sweet guy.
What’s next for you?
I’m going to continue doing videography work, however, music is also now a priority rather than just something to do for fun. After the reaction I received from this single, it just makes me want to make a track that people love even more, so hopefully I can pull that off.
Is there anything else we should know?
Fun fact: The girl who I wrote this song about is now my girlfriend. We have been together for almost a year. So, don’t give up on your dreams! Also, you can follow all my socials @moosecanfly.
