Single Stoner’s Club grabs your attention from the offset with short lines, classic vibes, and visually captivating scenes for his new release Hellavah.
Though things kind of stick to a single idea and line throughout, the video and indeed the overall groove of the track work well to keep you involved, and there is a slight sense of build-up and evolution as the verses gather momentum. The simplicity of the genre from back in the day pours through both instrumentally and in the vocal style and the lyrical approach of the rapper. Those short lines kick in with confidence, and there are plenty of minimalist bars that reach out as stylish and clever or quirky as the track progresses. The latter half in particular welcomes a little more detail, still resorting back to the easy-rhythm and anthem-like qualities of the song’s hook though.
Without a doubt, the video helps make sure the track hits with impact – you can’t help but watch as character and a clear love for the genre guide you along. As an introduction to the artist, and in terms of what works and what connects with a contemporary hip hop audience, Hellavah ticks a lot of boxes. Expressive performances and videography top it off well.
