Norwegian composer Solveig Sørbø brings together modernity and tradition in a powerful and rather ground-breaking fashion. Creatively exploring the impact of addiction, self-destruction, sexuality and death – the complex tension between innocence and physicality – set your pre-saves accordingly, for the October 16th release of the immensely ambitious opera Heroin Chic.
Composed around the novel by Norwegian writer Maria Kjos Fonn, Heroin Chic is an evocative sonic experience, blending cinematic composition, orchestral prestige, and deeply moving vocal nuance of both delicacy and power, throughout a 90-minute project that’s poignant and eclectically compelling.
The multi-layered opera promises an emotional charged array of performative weight, wonder, and charm, and provides a dose of relevant escapism that provokes thought and intensifies natural emotions in a manner likely unique to each listener’s own connection to the subject matter and style.
Though only a short sample is currently available, this is a mammoth venture from all involved, to say the least, and the full opera’s digital and physical launch is set to promise an outstanding creative experience.
