We get tumbling rhythm sections distantly mixed, careful panning, distorted power chords and playful electronic waves, all before we drop back into the simple and satisfying earworm of the hook. That seems to be the key here, contrast working its magic to allow a boldly alternative verse – something like Nine Inch Nils in its whispered darkness and conceptual complexity – to feel much more accessible and engaging, thanks to the easy drop to something familiar, recognisable, and repeatable.
Great production, great vocals, a new metal, emo-rock performative nuance and clear emotion and poetry at the helm, with a sonic arrangement that’s beautifully supporting that beating heat of concept and melody.
