Powder Chutes - Rivers - Stereo Stickman

Powder Chutes Rivers

-

Fiercely delivering a slice of iconic indie hard rock, with a twist of alternative grunge and something evocatively soulful – New Zealand four-piece Powder Chutes achieve a near-orchestral fullness with their heavy riffs, guitar solos, and faultless structural unity.

Falling somewhere between the likes of Highly Suspect and Nothing But Thieves, Powder Chutes top off an addictive rock arrangement, with a frontman and vocalist whose natural grit, power and vulnerability fuse beautifully on the mic.

The brand new single from their upcoming second studio album, Rivers is the result of a clear commitment to the craft – a band with thousands of monthly listeners, who’ve honed their style on the stage and in the studio alike, and bring a fine balance of passion and precision to their original songwriting.

Blending modern grunge, hard rock and punk, Rivers is a precise and powerful indie track, which, at its core, offers a much-needed injection of honest intimacy and escapism combined. The passion is unrivalled, the riff simple but hypnotic, the tone intense, and the character and identity of our protagonist appears to genuinely scream out on behalf of this deeply human ache.

The song relays a lyrically vague but cleverly relatable short poem of sorts – references to medication, self-harm, the darkness of the mind, all resolved by a declaration of love and the need to connect. It’s mysterious, but it gets to you, and the way the song is performed lets the concept make perfect personal sense, and that’s a rare quality these days; especially from a live band ready and waiting to rock out on tour.

“I spent my whole life afraid of the man that I was inside. I never thought I’d be alone in the dark of my mind, so goodbye.”

Single out July 3rd. Find Powder Chutes on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook.
