Singer, guitarist and composer Memori has released her debut single this month, bringing together a whole range of influences to a brilliantly energizing and unique result.
Ctrl C Ctrl V is an intriguing song in itself, that titles appeals for both contemporary relevance and mystery. Following this, Memori’s vocal delivery introduces an artist with a categorically individual tone and flow. The same goes for the long-form melody-line that makes up the verses – and indeed the one that makes up the hook.
Originality seems to run wild and free throughout this song, but not at the cost of effective musicality. On the contrary, Memori has structured the piece in a way that sees it move through these various sections in a striking fashion. Utilizing contrast brilliantly, the rise up from softness to the full-throttle punk-pop energy of later on makes sure to uplift and hold tight to your attention.
Driving with personality and identity is generally within reach for most, but rarely does it fuse so strongly with professionalism and musical flow. There’s plenty of freshness about this release, but there’s also plenty of familiarity in many of the building blocks – and that balance works really well.
