Break The Robot Life Goes On

-

Life Goes On is a track that grabs attention from the offset and continues to weave an impressive and likable web around you right the way through.

Having heard just a flicker of the song from afar, followed by watching a simple few seconds of the accompanying video, I’d made up my mind to be a fan of Break The Robot. The way they build the song up around you, fusing organic layers of ska and punk-pop as much as those that lean in something of a big-band, jazz-like direction – the release appeals for its raw musicality as much as for its multi-coloured ambiance and the simple good vibes it presents to the room.

The very concept of Life Goes On ties in well with the band’s sound and approach on this single. There are elements of Sublime to the melodic development and to that spacious, live-ska rhythm and style. Then you get the mildly raspy yet brilliantly strong and capable leading voice, helping give the band a lane of their own – something the overall structure of the track and the band’s superb use of contrast also works well towards.

Stunning vocals, simple yet effective, passionate and emotive – these ride along the top of a professionally crafted soundscape that showcases a somewhat humble yet impressive gathering of musicians. There’s a pop quality to the song in some respects, the hook and the weight of the voice amidst this otherwise near-mellow ambiance feels familiar and comforting in being so, but these qualities merely play the role of making certain you remember the song. In the meantime, you’re likely to find yourself looking up tour dates and venues – that live sound is sure to be something special.

Well worth a listen – I look forward to hearing more.
