Keeping things catchy yet fiercely creative this week, Canadian rock band Wild Goose 55 get the chemistry just right, with the old-school indie groove, low-key personality and vocals, of an ultimately euphoric and gritty Fighter.
What begins as a good indie rock track, soon evolves into a great alternative anthem – the vocals reach peak passion and raspy power for that hook, and the instrumental follows suit. It’s a huge moment, and afterwards, the rhythmic riff and groove capture all the more affection; contrast smoothly working its magic.
From indie pop to something like an impassioned fusion of Muse and Queens of the Stone Age, Fighter is an anthem for alternatives – superb vocals, distinct and genuine, mighty at the song’s looping crescendo.
It’s a must hear from the rock vault this season, and Wild Goose 55 are undoubtedly one to watch. Fascinating writing, seamless musical unity, and a mighty genre fusion and performative flair that’s captivating.
