Finally something addictively brilliant in its organic simplicity. Budapest creatives The Hybrid Drummer Duo have built something of a cult following in recent years, their commitment to the rhythmic versatility of impassioned drum-work standing tall amidst a nostalgic and memorable approach in each and every case. Most recently, EH AH makes for a rather iconic independent hit.

Coming in at just past the four-minute mark, EH AH follows a dirty bass-and-beat combo, through a simple rise and fall pattern, with quirky fragments and samples slowly but surely injecting a sense of rising anticipation.

Things linger amidst this air of evolution though, that classic presence akin to the kind of early noughties sound-play that first ignited our love for electronic creativity. Then we get the essential riff, the distorted thread of familiarity throughout the track – almost Mr Oizo-esque in its playfulness, but somewhat darker and more dingy in holding close to the escapism of the old-school underground Techno and House rave.

The tempo is mellow but consistent, the set-up dynamic enough to hold attention throughout, and the track in short makes for a superb introduction to a creative act unequivocally paving their own way. EH AH is an earworm with lashings of character – an instrumental electronic track with its feet firmly on the ground amidst the human-made creations that continue to connect in an unrivalled fashion.
