Continuing to bridge the gap between skilful, expressive songwriting and production, and an increasingly urgent need for intentional and widespread shifts in the collective human mindset, UAE creative Sarah R Jay launches her latest heartfelt cry for unity, with the Official Vocal Version of Echoes of Humanity.
Only weeks after the release of her callout to protect and re-vitalise our home through Earth is Crying, Echoes of Humanity intertwines seamless melodies and rhythms, with a clear sense of both heartbreak and optimism regarding the inequality, war and disconnection that’s currently sweeping the globe. How do we return to our shared roots? How do we remember our humanity in unison, and stop the devastation of division and destruction that’s currently wreaking havoc?
Delicate beginnings see reverb-soaked vocals whisper poetic reflections on the storm so many are living through. Piano guides us, with sweeping cinematic dance production soon elevating the passion and energy of the mix. Sarah’s voice is perfectly incorporated, these gentle to impassioned lines both short and increasingly intense, rising up with the skilful arrangement of a techno-pop landscape that’s intoxicating to escape into.
Holding on to this growing anticipation until its final third, the impending action and ferocity of Echoes of Humanity is brilliant – we linger in the realm of evolving ideas and uncertainty, Sarah balancing references to hope with those to pain and struggle. It’s a fight for survival, beautifully captured by three and a half minutes of artistic dance programming, and when the drop finally hits, the listener is truly uplifted by its sentiment and positivity, walking the line as one with our protagonist, between the difficulties of now, and the known successes and possibilities that are still within our reach.
Perhaps one of Sarah’s most focused and musically thoughtful releases yet, Echoes of Humanity is subtle by design, but all the more impactful and clever for its slow degree of progression, as the feelings, ideas and layers all tumble through, and ultimately culminate in a huge crescendo of a closing third.
“We’ve learned to fly, to code, to cure… but we still forget to feel.”
