S.I.N - Benz - Stereo Stickman

S.I.N Benz

-

New Jersey-area rapper and artist S.I.N contrasts the dreamy production of contemporary trap, with raspy and gritty bars, a short-lined modern flow, and a sense of freestyle expression, throughout the likes of his breakthrough single Benz.

Noting a flow and tone not dissimilar to the likes of Token, the track introduces a fierce and fearless approach on the mic – a relevant outpouring of reflections both random and connected throughout this theme. It’s a bold and fairly anthemic introduction, a little raw in the mix but that’s something to add to the authenticity and realness of the performance.

If we then move further into the 2024 album CONFESS YOUR SINS, we get tracks like Spinning, flipping the script entirely for a sub-two-minute mellow and intimate storyline and vibe that completely resets things. That versatility is key, an album unafraid to go there when it comes to artistic freedom and the ability to tell stories and be playful yet occasionally honest at the helm.

Kings is another track that brings through a fresh soundscape and something wholly unexpected. Here we get a cinematic, synth-led ambiance and vocal adlibs, paving the way for a free-flowing emo melody, trap rhythm, and mildly recognisable auto-tune. The track blends melody and rap in a familiar way, flooding the space with storytelling and scenes that help keep things grounded amidst this underlying topic of Kings.

Versatility continues to ring loud, as the grittier intensity of Fast raises the pulse and injects a little chaos and distortion, even subtle gamer tones, and rightfully relentless energy, for another creatively distinct track. In this setting, the S.I.N voice hits with a clear sense of empowerment and possibility, a level of fun and a passion for the process, which inherently suits the circus-like colour and mayhem of the production.

Other tracks worth noting include the immediately catchy Fast. In short though, S.I.N takes subtle influence from a wealth of hip hip sub-genres and its extensive history, but ultimately presents with a clear desire to weave stories and vibes that matter on a personal and emotional level. The eclecticism works boldly in favour of longevity, and hopefully 2025 continues to build upon that.
