Dreamy dance-pop of a divinely gentle aura meets with a certain rhythmic uplift and lightness that’s equally alluring. RODEO HOTEL have captured a sound of their own, and driven through the noise of the world with quietly reflective sentiments and vocals that naturally soothe the mood.
Introducing the sound of an act with a unique balancing of dream-pop and something like nostalgic summer dance or drum and bass, WAS I SOMEONE? is a heartfelt longform story of self-contemplation and uncertainty. The narrative is poetic, but these breathy layers of voice and the equally enchanting calm and colour of the production, lets the overall feeling take precedence.
It’s a striking and enjoyable introduction, hypnotic at the very least, euphoric at best when listened to at volume, and it marks a fine example of the creative nuance of RODEO HOTEL.
WAS I SOMEONE? also emerges complete with an energising remix, taking that latter euphoric quality to greater heights still, and celebrating the value of superb instrumental depth in unison with recognisable vocals and thoughtful ideas.
Also from the recent RODEO HOTEL catalogue, Alright leads with those now unmistakable vocals, but presents a sort of electro-pop groove and laid-back conceptual theme to effectively access a whole new audience.
The unique angle of this pop-dance crossover remains a selling point, along with the purity and lightness of the voice, but now there’s something nostalgic and perhaps a little more bold at the forefront of the set-up.
On a similar note, Give me more is an electro-pop dance gem with a strong rhythm and synth combination. The voice is quirky here, nostalgic pop again but long-form and heartfelt to balance things out. The precision and professionalism is on form, making each new track fall in line well for a rising and undeniably distinct pop act, and the song has the effect of appearing both mellow and uplifting; depending on what you need from it.
Then to flip the script somewhat, The Light I Need is clearly influenced by nineties RnB – a retro production and smooth vocal thread bringing back the romanticism and intimacy of eras past, and yet, even with this bold diversity of style, the RODEO HOTEL voice maintains its identity and personality. The lyrics also blend the personal and the poetic quite beautifully throughout.
Finally, to highlight that versatility all the more so – Crystal is both a romanticised pop classic, and a euphoric dance hit with an immersive combination of lounge and house qualities spread across an addictive groove and downpour of synths, keys, and vocal melodies.
RODEO HOTEL have said they are focusing on content and promotion to communicate with listeners in North America, Europe, and beyond, ahead of their first official album release, which creatively aims for an Emotive Electro style. We look forward to their future musical endeavours.
