From the title-track alone it’s a strong introduction, a soaring rock track with a twist of rap-rock akin to Linkin Park. Weave in the torment of the lyrical outcry, and a hugely anthemic chorus, and Neverending is off to an explosive start.
Another highlight from the album is All The Big Mistakes, a fast-paced and riff-led, high-octane pop-punk single, which takes on the weight of toxic habits and broken trust, while confronting the listener in a personal way, on behalf of cleaning up the mess after a series of terrible choices. Another catchy hook is evocative and bold, and the rock sound takes us back to the peak live energy of the genre from a decade or so ago.
Eight original songs make up Neverending, with Backseat Fireworks utilising power-chord quietness for storytelling verses that ultimately pave the way towards another euphoric hook. Then there’s the similar design but softer vocal refrain of Chrome and Champagne, a well-placed track with a twist of country pop to its verses, and poetic images that again tell a focused and personal story; with a massive celebration of a pop-rock chorus.
Familiar references make up the warmth and energy of an inherently nostalgic High School Parking Lot, while Paper Sky Between Us recaptures the darker new-metal energy and aura, for a synth-soaked pop-metal track that’s poignant, gritty, haunting, and a definite creative highlight. The song reflects upon the process of screaming out for attention through a ‘fragile barrier’.
Talk Too Fast follows well, a catchy pop-punk anthem with a fine blend of melancholy and brightness at the forefront. Then to finish, we get imagery and storytelling in full force, and a structural highlight that perfectly employs contrasts between intimate verses and an impassioned, unignorable hook.
When The Bridge Gives Way is an inspiring final moment, a draw towards connection and memory, value and accountability. It’s a poignant work again, with a high-energy, high-passion arrangement, and the song makes for a huge closing track – one last highlight anthem, from an album committed to precisely the kind of escapism that screams out on behalf of anguish and uncertainty in the modern world.
