Maximum Turbodrive is an artist and creative producer set to release an EP of original music on Halloween of this year. His self declared appreciation for 80’s slasher and sci-fi movies is something that comes through in full force within the music. That Fucking Nobody Is John Wick is the perfect place to start.
The music presents a highly intense return to the synth-wave sound that once rocked the cinematic world. The track is huge, the thickness of the sound is heavy and yet the soundscape is complex and intricate at the same time. Structurally it takes on the role of a movie – the build up, the fall away, the quiet moments, the chase, the terror. At five minutes long the piece takes over your consciousness entirely as you listen, and it’s well worth listening at full volume to get the complete effect.
The unique nature of the music is fascinating, particularly at this point in our lives when mainstream creativity has been somewhat starved of oxygen and loaded up instead with tried and tested formulas. This track is explosive and intense to listen to, the intrigue of it is in the unfolding story-line or journey upon which the soundscape takes you, but the beauty of it comes through thanks to a sublime and professional mix that highlights the inner strength of the chord progression and the fire that is this collective mass of both distorted and dreamlike synths.
As a producer, Maximum Turbodrive has both the ability and the vision to give you something completely fresh and completely mesmerising, even a little terrifying on occasion. The creativity seems limitless; the riffs, the varying effects and the retro, electronic instrumentation. This collection as available so far is intensely appealing when you consider how very little there is that sounds quite like this or that grabs your attention so relentlessly. Lock in with the socials to stay updated on the full release. Well worth exploring.
