Thoughtfully capturing the unique space between those connected in love, Kathy Muir’s return this season brings an impassioned acoustic ode to the power of that connection, when faced with the seemingly impossible circumstances of a long-distance relationship.
Bringing things back to the bare essentials for songwriting and heartfelt performance, HUSH has been artistically written, structured, and delivered, so as to fully encapsulate the emotions and implications of its subject matter.
We begin with a simple strum and nearly whispered vocal melody, this ever-familiar reference to ‘Hush my little baby’, and despite a swirling evolution of passion thereafter, we return to this same comforting reflection in the end – a fitting representation of the strength of love and connection in spite of the difficulties that rain down elsewhere.
Featuring a beautifully produced acoustic sound, Kathy’s voice meanders from these gentle moments to a boldly evocative peak for the chorus, venturing away from simple folk-pop towards something notably more soulful and alternative by nature, and that shift is essential in embracing precisely the longing and depth of the story.
The guitar playing furthers that effect, the humble strum progressing into more intense and rhythmic hits as the vocal peaks, before modestly returning once again, to the calm and security of that opening oneness.
Long-time singer and songwriter Kathy Muir has built up an impressive repertoire over the years, and 2025 is already on track to showcase some of the outright best and most engaging songs of her career.
Kathy is also currently working on an initiative to make experiencing music online more accessible for people of all abilities and backgrounds. As such, HUSH is also available in a British Sign Language Version, and this will be the case with a series of upcoming single releases – the next of which is set to be The Borderline, on February 21st.
