Halfway Human break the mold beautifully with this latest release. Creatively fusing elements of hip hop with soundscape design and even dashes of punk-pop, their sound is immediately expressive and notably theatrical as it pours through – so much so that you quickly crave a live performance; particularly with festival season looming.
Kicking off with the uniquely entertaining and rhythmically uplifting Burr On The Cat, the self-titled project brings high energy and colourful performances across the board. Instrumentally unique and lyrically captivating, the stories and scenes that unfold drive with precisely the kind of unique artistry alternative music fans often crave. At the same time though, there’s a decidedly satisfying set-up to each piece – these hooks, these melodies, these riffs, these bars; everything within works at its peak to entrance and engage an audience. Hence the feeling that a live show from Halfway Human would see entire crowds of people under their spell and feeding off of that passion and unpredictability.
As you progress through the project, you begin to appreciate more and more so the intricate nature of the compositions, and the thoughtful, emotional approach to writing the band present. Enjoy The Feeling is a highlight for a whole host of different reasons to the opener. The project in full is a must – particularly if you’ve tired of the repetitive loops of ideas and effects that make up the bulk of mainstream music. A joy to stumble upon.
