Great vibes from this band, an atmospheric and ambient introduction leading into a psychedelic take on contemporary reggae – only it’s not really that simple to summarise.
Come and Get Some V2 presents a fast-paced ska-band sound in essence, melodically enchanting but with modern production plus twists of hip hop and anthemic vocal unity for the choruses.
It’s a full-band approach, for me remisncent of the smaller-scale festival scenes of recent decades, and yet again, there’s so much about the Fat Picnic sound in particular that carves out a fresh lane. Consider thoughtful lyrics, rising into a simple motivational hook, plus changes in pace, soulful vocal deliveries, horn sections, and a rapid sense of dance-ready escapism.
Come And Get Some V2 is a brilliant track – not overly performative but kind of confident and satisfying in its own way. Think Will and The People, Sticky Fingers, Sublime, but with a more relevant kind of indie-pop production and versatility to the lyrical and performative spread.
Fat Picnic are a great band – I look forward to checking out more of their music and, hopefully, a live show some day.
