Creatively capturing the essence of a stark new reality – Everlust ignite the darkness and depth of both haunting hard-rock and the conceptual truth of our current transition into living exclusively online.
Featuring a brilliantly dark and enchanting gothic rock set-up and arrangement, Everlust employ a distinct dynamic between female and male leads for each verse, as we follow a solo guitar-line moving like waves through the mix, towards an explosive bass and beat crescendo, as the passion of the subject matter reaches its unsettling yet euphoric peak.
New Normal is a song about spending too much time hooked on our screens – watching TV, staring at phones, living for the tiny snippets of life we see through the glass; and in the process presenting only the same ideal and unreal snippets of ourselves. It’s a song that connects for its nostalgic weight and ambience in itself, but which proves all the more poignant and striking given its poetry and relevant topical prominence.
As we fall further under the grip of technology, becoming virtual creatures almost permanently, New Normal delivers an anthemic and beautifully catchy dark and melodic rock gem of a track, and confidently reminds us to open our eyes, to put down the gadgets, and to free ourselves from the falsehoods of online disconnection.
A fantastic song, old-school intoxicating for the dark rock fans of the past, but refreshingly original in tone and topic for the modern era. I look forward to hearing more from Everlust.
