Perfectly timed but building up slowly and purposefully regardless, Emergency features a nostalgic lightness initially, the clean chaos of hi-hats and the muggy warmth of a synth pattern utilising simplicity to draw attention.
As things evolve, the intense distortion and fog of the vocal and fuller soundscape injects a clear redirection of character – another balancing of lightness and weight, amidst a strangely intoxicating or dreamlike audio set-up.
Inspired by the likes of Gorillaz and Daft Punk in terms of the mystique and artistic freedom of the brand, DJ Stwaar! keeps his focus on the playful nature of production, and in the process delivers a uniquely haunting but potentially immense alternative floor filler.
The whole thing washes over like some drug-induced wave of industrial and electronic sources boldly intertwined. There are references of distinct identity scattered throughout, recognisable riffs and chord patterns, the drum line and its delicacy with pace proving an equal thread of personality, but otherwise, the experimental approach takes the reigns, and Emergency quite aptly underlines the relentless urgency implied by its title.
