Less than two weeks until the big day, Christmas is approaching at pace, and here we have the third instalment of One World One Christmas – just in time to light up the celebrations, as we get everything ready for December 25th.
Austrian composer and songwriter De Brand has dedicated his anthology of original music to world peace and unity this year, offering three immense Christmas Albums, all loaded with original songs that promise warmth and joy throughout the Christmas season.
Vol. 3 moves on from the bounce of the first, the heartfelt intimacy of the second, and presents as a comfortingly nostalgic Christmas songs collection.
Merry Christmas to All and Everyone is an old-school beauty, melodically and instrumentally traditional, with a storytelling production that feels like the dawn of Disney in some ways. It’s a gorgeous opening song, a timeless classic, and it sets the mood well for the rest of this final instalment of One World One Christmas.
Next we get a pop-punk vocal and a ukulele groove, as Peace For Everyone (Happy Mix) reflects with strength and togetherness, on overcoming struggles, being grateful, and reuniting at Christmas time. Then we turn towards a lovely pop bounce and imagery of winter and Christmas, for the joyful and catchy gem Jingling All Night.
Versatility is key to holding attention with this project, and the third vocal style adds a female pop character to the mix, and one of the album’s most memorable hooks.
Boost your energy and mood for the evenings of partying this Christmas, with anthemic uplifting songs like Snowflakes and Smiles (Jingle Mix), or take things back to the bare essentials of bells and long-form melodies, for the brightness of It’s Holiday In The Air – a massive, all-together-now chorus and great riffs making this another catchy and impressively original highlight.
Joy is Here is an upbeat jam, with passionate vocals that beg for you to join in, and a huge dance backdrop that’s euphoric at its crescendo. Then we get another welcomed moment of modern acoustic pop, for Holiday Glow, before the choir-led jam of Under The Christmas Lights presents another absolute earworm and unifying celebration.
De Brand’s intention with this three-part Christmas album project was to bring people together, to inspire a collective calm and gratitude this Christmas, and to promote connection and peace, at a time when we perhaps need it more than ever. The music is uplifting, calming, joyful, it brings a smile and warms the heart, and it also makes sure to remind us of the reasons that it exists.
Songs like The Gift Is Love are crucial to that understanding and purpose, as well as the later track Hearts Come Home at Christmas (Rock Mix). And of course, arrangement matters, so to cleverly counter such depth, we rightfully get the intermittent return to a joyous and fast-paced bounce, for the likes of family-favourite Snowfall Serenade.
Closing down volume three of One World One Christmas is the sleigh bells mix of the title-track, and it’s a multi-vocal commemoration, and a hugely passionate, powerful anthem of togetherness – the perfect way to wrap up what has been a gorgeous and hope-inspiring Christmas album.
“Tears will turn to songs of cheer. Christmas time is finally here. One world, one Christmas: sing it loud, sing it strong.”
While it can be tricky to break through with an original Christmas song, given the nostalgic comfort of the classics, De Brand has managed to craft three full albums of engaging original Christmas songs. The longer you let these playlists ring out, the more their professionalism and wonder fills the space with the same traditional warmth of the past – while offering some fresh tuneful peaks, to give this Christmas a little something new and special.
