Crimson Calamity Ghost (Feat. Zane Carney)

-

Creatively taking its time to build and envelop listeners entirely, Crimson Calamity’s single Ghost proves an artistic and deeply emotive hit of story and song, with a powerful sense of humanity and depth at its core.

A gentle track to begin with – breathy vocals meet with a simple piano-chord progression and plenty of space. Add in some short lines for the verse lyric, a subtle dash of reverb, and without a doubt it’s the concept and the intimacy of the voice that initially capture affection.

As things progress, the vocals reach unexpectedly bold and passionate peaks, evolving to become stronger, more soulful and captivating, and the music grows brighter and more immersive in unison with this process. The latter half even welcomes in a well-placed, unpredictably distorted and again soulful guitar solo – an instrumental break that seduces in a brilliantly nostalgic fashion.

Then we get the impact of contrast once more, a drop down to the bare and gentle essentials, before things rise up one final time for the full-throttle swagger and rhythm of an Americana-soaked chorus of voices and instrumental layers.

Beautifully crafted, and addictive in melody and lyric alike – particularly during those final moment repeats. I look forward to exploring the rest of Crimson Calamity’s catalogue.
