counterglow - echoes of self - Stereo Stickman

counterglow echoes of self

-

From the ambient and cinematic, to the lo-fi jazz café and smooth, soulful indie pop vibes – counterglow follow instinct and emotion, throughout the colourful highs and lows of the intimate, immersive and rather classic album echoes of self.

Lush vocals feel expressive and intentional, freestyle and genuine in their evocative warmth and distance combined. Breathy layers meet the lo-fi warmth of the production beautifully, almost taking us back to the days of Zero 7 and laid-back trip hop with tracks like soon.

Elsewhere though, the music is very suddenly confronting, groovy and industrial, such as with soonlude (i promise). The result is something impressively creative, unpredictable, and authentic in its modern captures of these thoughts and dreamscapes regarding the self.

This is a record worth spending some time with, and there’s plenty to pay attention to and appreciate, but also, this is a joy to let play in the backdrop to your life. An indie gem of character and playful freedom.
