Cosmic Park are a trio comprised of Sean, Cailean and Sophie, all aged under twelve, and all on to a winning formula when it comes to crafting unique and effective rock and roll tracks. Their single Summer Days encapsulates everything it is to be an appealing and uplifting indie anthem. Beginning with a chorus of voices and the simplicity of a characterful, memorable leading guitar riff, later evolving to showcase an indie-rock melody and vocal style that presents a totally different side to the sound than the opening moments first suggest – the song makes itself known.
The vocal effect chosen adds a level of distortion and grit that helps keep the band firmly in the rock category, as opposed to the recent tendency for bands to veer off in more of a pop direction. In this case, the band seem free from the confines of societal genre dictations or rules, and this makes for a genuinely rock and roll inspired listening experience – complete with high energy guitars and rhythm, and a passionate yet notably mellow leading voice; one that seems to fit in well with the carefree, easy going vibe of organic music dedicated to the good times.
Summer Days is indeed a track dedicated to the good times. It reaches out to generations past and present – the sound offers a touch of nostalgia for those who’ve been familiar with it for decades now, and a fresh touch of realism and relevance for anyone looking for that authentic, new audio experience – something that is categorically different to the majority of mainstream releases, and yet that relates to those familiar, ever agreeable good times that are shared by so many. As stated, it’s a winning formula, and the band somehow successfully fuse the grit and realness of rock with a fairly polished level of production that allows the song to really shine brightly. There’s a lot to remember and recognise after even just a single listen – the riffs, the leading voice, the personality, and of course the hook. It all leaves its mark. Hopefully there’s more to come from these guys.
This band is going places! Only for the youthfulness of the singers voice you wouldn’t know this was kids playing. If these guys are this good at 10 and 11 yrs old they will be absolutely out of this world when they’re older. I will be keeping a close eye on these guys.
Amazing stuff guys! Great tune and great riff!
