Beth Gladen - Re:Birth - Stereo Stickman

Beth Gladen Re:Birth

-

An old-school drum-line with a Philadelphia groove about it, blending smoothly with world music tones and organic layers of synth / string / voice… An intoxicating mystique, and a melancholic aura from the chords to back up the instant escapism of the track. Beth Gladen sets herself apart from the crowd, with the beautifully original, piano-led trip-hop and alternative essence of Re-Birth.

Crafted around this drumline and piano combination, welcoming distinct layers of melody and further instrumentation for character, Re-Birth later grounds itself amidst the humble leadership of a dreamy and delicate female vocal.

The voice is mildly fragmented by way of adlibs and intriguing lyrical contemplations, and for the most part, it’s this call and response between the voice and the frontline instrumental riff, which proves absolutely fascinating and striking as the track rains down.

The more you listen, the rewarding the sound is, and this continues to ring loud despite the extensive run-time of close to six minutes. It’s a brilliant example of letting the music take the wheel, and I look forward to listening through more of the Beth Gladen catalogue.
