Faultlessly uniting sensational and natural vocals, with a unique but engaging approach to pop songwriting that’s both relevant and fearlessly authentic – Bella Masone is a lifelong musician and songwriter with a clear sense of passion and purpose at the heart of her music.

The rising artist delivers a masterfully established sound with her recent singles, and creates a space that aptly draws the listener in as they ponder these reflections on life and love. Rather than seeking out genre tags or comparisons, the songs themselves are quick to work their magic for connection and escapism, and that’s the stand-out quality of all things Bella Masone right now.

Don’t Call Me (Crazy) is an ideal starting point – a track that meanders between the familiar and the fresh with blissful realism and soulful, captivating warmth. The groove becomes its own thing for creativity and bounce, but the song maintains this impassioned essence that is the lyrical and performative flair driving things along.

“You were more to me than I could ever be to you” resounds with soulful fluidity and piercing realism – a line that resonates for its honesty and indeed the changing vocal prowess that delivers it. Slowly but surely Bella Masone builds further on this sense of performative evolution, and the production of the track grows more immersive in line with that.

Before long we drop into an echoing dance realm, a simple chorus repeating in the outer edges, before we’re suddenly presented with a funky guitar sound for the next verse. Long form melodies continue to weave a storytelling web that’s original but consistently interesting. A little like Sabrina Carter in some ways, but musically and vocally a distinct ode to the artistic freedom and depth of sound that is Bella Masone.

Don’t Call Me (Crazy), is beautiful, balancing traits both familiar and completely unprecedented, throughout a dreamy trip hop and dance-pop realm that’s uplifting but profoundly contemplative in its provocative state. It’s a fine introduction, and far from a one hit wonder from the established Delaware creative.

Also recently released is the more traditional, piano-led ballad Everywhere I Go. Here Bella’s own background in piano shines with intimacy and organic, unplugged emotion. Her voice intoxicates for its up-front leadership and contrasting delicacy, somewhat reminiscent of Adele in this case, and the lyrics again achieve a sublime balance between the broadly accessible and that which feels like an original twist on the familiar.

Bella Masone the songwriter is unafraid to let these longer form musings develop – this stream of consciousness approach is refreshing, compelling, and the sort of thing that naturally gets listeners coming back for more; to master the form, to memorise the words, and to truly connect with the essence of the song.
