Venomode’s latest release, Mesa, is a powerful and flexible multi-mode clipper plugin now available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Designed to offer both precision control and rich saturation, Mesa lets audio engineers and producers tame peaks or push their mix into punchier, louder territory — all without introducing harsh artefacts. (KVR Audio)
At its core, Mesa provides three separate clipping modes that cater to different sonic needs. Whether you’re dealing with transient peaks on a drum bus or aiming to give a mix more weight, these modes let you shape your sound in different ways. On top of that, there are two enhancer modules, which can add warmth, character, or cohesion to a signal rather than simply squashing it.
One of Mesa’s biggest strengths is its multi-band and mid-side processing. This means you can apply clipping selectively: for instance, only to your high frequencies, or more aggressively in the mid, giving you surgical control over what you’re saturating.
For monitoring and metering, Mesa includes LUFS and peak displays on both the input and output, so you can compare perceived loudness against raw signal peaks. It also supports up to 16× oversampling, which helps reduce aliasing and unwanted distortion artifacts.
As for pricing, Mesa is currently on offer at £29 (until 8th December), after which it reverts to its regular price of £49. In addition, Venomode has released Mesa Lite, a free version of the plugin, which offers a single soft-clip module with variable rollover for gentle saturation or peak control — ideal for those just wanting to try it out.
Overall, Mesa looks like a highly capable and affordable tool for both subtle audio enhancement and bold loudness shaping — especially for users who want fine-tuned control over clipping without losing clarity.
