Deezer Reports 28% of Music Uploaded Is Now Fully AI-Generated

-

Deezer has revealed that more than 28% of all tracks delivered daily to its platform are now fully AI-generated, with over 30,000 synthetic songs uploaded each day. The French streaming service remains the only major platform to tag 100% AI-generated content and exclude it from recommendations, positioning itself as a leader in transparency and artist protection amid the accelerating rise of generative music technology.

According to CEO Alexis Lanternier, Deezer’s goal is to ensure fairness for both artists and listeners. “Following a massive increase during the year, AI music now makes up a significant part of the daily track delivery to streaming,” he explained. “We remove fully AI-generated content from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists to minimize any negative impact on royalties and maintain a transparent user experience. The main driver behind these uploads remains fraudulent activity, which we are determined to combat.”

Deezer’s proprietary AI-detection tool, launched early in 2025, allows the company to track the rapid rise of synthetic music. In January, only 10% of incoming tracks were AI-generated; by April, the figure rose to 18%, and now, in September, it has reached a record 28%. Despite the surge in uploads, AI music currently accounts for only 0.5% of total streams on the platform—yet investigations show that around 70% of those streams are fraudulent. Deezer excludes any detected fraudulent streams from royalty calculations to protect artists’ earnings.

The company’s approach is rooted in a broader commitment to defending creative rights. With ongoing debates over AI companies training models on copyrighted material and potential legal changes to copyright law, Deezer has signed the Global Statement on AI Training, reaffirming its dedication to artist and creator protection.

Technologically, Deezer’s AI-music detection system represents an industry first. It can identify fully synthetic tracks from leading generative models such as Suno and Udio, and it can adapt to detect content from new tools provided relevant data examples are available. The platform’s research team is also developing more generalizable systems capable of identifying AI-generated material even without model-specific training data.

The broader music industry views the spread of generative AI as a critical challenge. A 2025 study by CISAC and PMP Strategy, conducted with industry participation including Deezer, estimated that nearly 25% of global creator revenues—around €4 billion—could be at risk by 2028 due to the impact of AI. Deezer argues that maintaining robust detection systems and fair streaming economics will be key to preventing that loss.

In addition to implementing safeguards, Deezer continues to invest in technology. The company filed two patents in December 2024 related to its AI detection methods, covering unique approaches to identifying digital “signatures” that differentiate synthetic from authentic audio.

For now, Deezer is taking a measured stance: all AI-generated songs are excluded from recommendations and playlists, and the company is evaluating further steps such as updating supplier policies or demonetizing synthetic tracks. By prioritizing transparency and fairness, Deezer aims to ensure that the rise of AI in music creation does not undermine the integrity—or the livelihoods—of human artists.
