Two creative formats carefully intertwined – author and musician Mo Fanning delivers a full-length album, crafted to accompany and compliment his brand new book release Rainbows and Lollipops.
Featuring ambient electronic arrangements and uplifting, often nostalgic hooks, Just Stopped By welcomes an array of session musicians, adding diversity and dynamic to a thoughtful and occasionally euphoric collection of feel-good pop and rock songs.
As an introduction, the enchanting melody and immersive rhythmic charm of Logical Progressions connects well and fascinates, setting the bar high for a theatrical and undeniably catchy modern album. However, stylistically this is far from the extent of the project’s reach. And this much is clear from the switch to a more spacious and quirky pop set-up and performance, for Love Lies Bleeding – and again for the dramatic juxtaposition of space and rhythmic power, that is the unmistakable earworm Revenge Is Sweet.
These songs are entertaining, lyrically interesting but relatable, and also mysterious enough to draw genuine interest in Mo’s novel. A pleasant and colourful album, with an array of fresh voices and modern production flair.
