Letting creativity lead the way – nostalgically inspired but artistically modern, with a crisp finish and a dark, seductive overall groove. XyXa captures the essence of romantic entanglement, with the addictive stomp and dramatic strings of Tango Insuperable.
On the surface, uniting layers of organic instruments like accordion, cello, piano and drums, Tango Insuperable more than lives up to the implications of its name. Underneath this, however, is a clear melodic and evocative journey unique to this composition. Even the opening chord progression – these quietly picked strings and their long-form melodic expression – proves suggestive of an original venture.
Slowly but surely the layers intensify, the drama of sudden piano and accordion intermittently gracing the space, before the sheer and infectious weight of the rhythm section is quick to draw you in to the centre of the groove.
Timeless in its old-school cinematic embrace, Tango Insuperable is a real pleasure to experience at volume. There aren’t many tracks of this nature pouring through the airwaves of late, but XyXa’s playfulness and professionalism at the helm has taken the wheel with confidence, character, and grace.
