Beautiful music, simple and unpretentious – honest and uplifting. Kyla Jaymes is a master of the songwriting format, in my view, always surprising yet distinct with each new single, and Intrigued is a genuine and humble, enjoyable ode to that quality.
Featuring a subtle horn section to light up an easy and organic four-chord groove, Intrigued follows a hopeful melody through intimate lyrics and scenes reflecting upon life and a desired relationship. The lyrics are relatable but original, never quite turning down the road you expect, such as “Queen, please don’t steal my throne from me”, but they’re satisfying and connect well regardless; for their sense of realness and unpredictability.
In this case, Intrigued is something of a timeless folk-pop single with a clear sense of emotional optimism to the delivery and tuneful progression. You cab instantly recognise the Kyle Jaymes voice, but there’s something celebratory and exciting about the performance this time – it’s another new angle, and a brilliantly structured pop song, with just enough of that indie authenticity to give it weight as an interesting and memorable gem of the season.
Beautiful rhyme schemes and modest but effective melodic switches are just part of the prestige and experience that Kyle Jaymes continues to bring to modern music. With dozens of original songs to his name, work ethic and talent consistently walk hand-in-hand with an unrelenting joy for songwriting and music in general, and that consistency, that natural connection and depth is undoubtedly why Kyle is noting such vast increases in streaming numbers and awareness for his name and artistry. Indie followers take note, and stream Intrigued to warm up these winter months.
“I don’t mind wasting my time for something that’s right.”
