An aptly-named Sound Animal take expressive audio to deeply unpredictable realms with this hypnotically mellow-paced deep-dive into the centre of psychedelic doom rock.
Feeling as if we’ve been thrown into the amplifier or left stranded somewhere between the artist and the stage, the music – or rather, the audio journey – has a fiercely distorted intensity to it. Layers of guitar and flute meander in a freestyle manner, almost sounding like bagpipes screeching at one point, with a warmth underneath that keeps a sense of emotion prominent.
Naturally unlike anything you’ll have delved into lately, End Of Neverending proves an intriguing, uniquely conceptual instrumental, which is all at once heart-breaking and haunting – perhaps one or the other in any given situation.
Sound Animal commit to the moment with fearless volume and intention, and you can feel this as these tribal details gather subtle momentum.
By the third minute, there’s a familiarity to the progression, an immersive degree of softly rising anticipation, and you can’t help but stay along for the ride.
Beautiful in its own creatively new, deeply poignant way – refreshingly interesting, and a pleasure to let your mind wander amidst.
