Following the release of his brand new single Fadeaway, we caught an interview with Cleveland rapper and artist Revenge Caam, to find out more about his journey so far and his plans for the future. Here’s how it went.

Hey, thanks for the chat – for those who don’t know, how long have you been making music, and what prompted you to go with the name Revenge Caam?
Thank you for having me ! I’ve been making music since about the end of 2016, but I didn’t upload my first track to SoundCloud until like spring of 2017 when I dropped Maison. I was super new at finding beats and everything, so I just took like the first Playboi Carti beat I could find and made a song !
With my name, I decided to rebrand myself before I left to go to college in a whole new city, so I came up with Revenge Caam. To me, Revenge is kinda what motivates me, its not at a certain person or thing, but more of the energy that’s around it.
Do you produce your own beats or collaborate? If the former, what software do you use, and do you play any instruments?
I’m all collaborating, I’m absolutely horrible with all that technical beat making stuff honestly. I am getting pretty decent at actually making and mixing my own music, but even that’s rough. I couldn’t even imagine creating a beat for myself, I’ve tried A LOT. For at home recording though I do use pro tools.
What does the song Fadeaway mean for you, and how long did it take to make from writing to releasing?
Fadeaway was one of the first songs I made after a huge writing block. For me, it represents the loss of connections from distance no matter how far it is. Also, I used a lot of the song as almost my own self-motivation in a way. I like to hype myself in my songs a lot.
What’s your writing process like – do you just ad-lib over the beat, or write and edit your bars?
Sometimes it’s a mix really, but for the most part I write and edit my own bars. I started out writing my lyrics and pretty much carried that till now. Some of my best work has been from writing the bars, but sometimes I will put in a freestyle for a hook or part of a verse .
Is live performance a big part of what you do, or your plans?
Honestly, I haven’t even scratched the surface of it. I did like one live performance in front of like 5-6 people and the staff of the venue. It was a crazy experience, and I’ll never forget it. I can’t wait till I’m doing the Odeon and agora and stuff. I want that crazy atmosphere. It’s coming soon though.
What’s the scene like for this kind of music in Cleveland OHIO lately, prior to Covid?
Cleveland has a lot of talent, on the come up and even buzzing underground. I really think it’s gonna be where the next scene of music comes from. There is too much going on for it to not get recognized. You are seeing all these scenes pop up in these places like Detroit, South Florida, it’s only a matter of time till Cleveland gets added to that list .
You drop a fair few contemporary references and names in your music. Who or what would you say inspires you the most to work hard and get things done creatively?
Honestly, my own drive to kinda achieve the goals I set for myself really drive me. Creative-wise, vintage wrestling, like WWF and ECW keep my brain on the right path haha. I love the creativity in wrestling and that definitely helps me think outside the box more !
Does your creativity manifest itself in any other ways than music?
I am literally almost only creative in the music realm haha. I kinda have a knack for clothing and fashion but it’s nowhere near as intense as my love for making new music !
Who would you choose to share the stage with if you could?
Future without a doubt. I have been a fan of his since the beginning. One of my favourite projects, 56 Nights, has literally guided me in more ways than I can even think. I think Future is one of the smartest artists of our generation. The way he continues to be so consistent and relevant to this day is incredible and I can wait to share the stage with him !
What do you have planned for the coming months and years – any longer projects, tours, appearances?
My plan for now is to keep consistent and keep the projects and songs coming out. I want to have an established fan base by the end of the year. I know with the plan I have in my head, that I can achieve all this. It’s just all about execution and overcoming my own roadblocks.
