From playing keys for Captain Hollywood Project to developing a serious case of gear acquisition syndrome, Tommy Countach’s journey has moved confidently into the solo realm, but at no point has he released the acceleration from a passionate and skilful perspective.
Beautifully emotional from the outset, and maintaining that heart-breaking realism even during the heavier drops from the hook, Another Day In Paradise suits the nuance and delicacy of the voice here beautifully.
Tommy Countach’s arrangement is all-consuming – the classic riff remains amidst an ocean of cascading synths, bass notes, rhythms, keys and flavours. All the while, we lose ourselves in the four-to-the-floor dance groove, and the distorted passion of the production counters the softness and humanity of the voice and the subject matter perfectly well; even adding some mainstream pop refrains that echo the closing vocal outpourings of ‘just think about it’.
The whole thing is structurally on point, and the track achieves that worthy status of being both instantly recognisable and refreshingly new.
